Why it’s so hard
You’re both carrying more than anyone sees.
Raising a neurodivergent child asks a lot of both of you.
Your child
Holding it together all day
- Masking at school, then falling apart at home.
- Sensory load that builds quietly until it doesn’t.
- Transitions that cost more than the task on either side.
You
Carrying what nobody sees
- Reading every room before you walk into it.
- The calls, the forms, the meetings, the waitlists.
- Explaining your child, again, to people who’ve already decided.
It’s wrong that families are left to figure this out often without access ND-affirming support. We work alongside you and your child, never on them.
What we support
Built around your child’s day.
OT for kids is about everyday life: the moments that go sideways, and the ones you’d like more of. This is where families usually start.
-
Morning
Out the door
Socks that feel wrong, breakfast in the wrong texture, and a clock that won’t wait.
We can work on
- Routines & transitions
- Self-care & everyday skills
-
School
The school day
Noise, lineups and group work, and holding it together until the bell.
We can work on
- Sensory processing
- School supports
-
After school
Coming home
Everything held in all day comes out where it’s safe. That’s not defiance; it’s capacity running out.
We can work on
- Regulation & meltdowns
- Play & connection
-
Bedtime
Winding down
A body that won’t settle and a brain that won’t switch off.
We can work on
- Sleep & bedtime
- Rest & recovery

Ways to work with us

Most of what helps your child happens at home, between sessions. That’s why we often suggest starting with caregiver coaching, wherever you live.

Common questions
What caregivers ask before they book.
Plain answers to what families wonder before a first call. If yours isn’t here, ask on the call.
Probably not. Caregiver coaching is with you, so it works for families of children from age 3, and it can carry on as your child grows into their teen and adult years. In person, Sonya in Squamish sees children from age 3 and Tami in Canmore from age 6. With younger children, most of the work happens through play and the routines your family already has. On the free call we’ll tell you plainly whether we’re the right fit.
Yes. Many families come to us while waiting on an assessment, or because something isn’t working and they want support now. You don’t need a diagnosis to begin, and we won’t ask you to prove anything. Some funding sources do require one; if that applies to you, we’ll say so plainly on the call.
No. Everyday OT is a neuroaffirming clinic. We don’t treat stimming, deep interests or a need for predictability as problems to fix, and we won’t coach your child to mask. The aim is a day that works for your child and for your family: less distress, more capacity, and more of what your child enjoys.
Caregiver coaching is OT sessions with you, by video, wherever you are in BC, Alberta, Ontario or Atlantic Canada. You bring what’s been hard this week, and together we work out what to try next in the moments where it happens: mornings, transitions, bedtime. Your child can join when it helps but doesn’t have to. Because you’re with your child far more than any therapist is, the changes reach more of their day.
Yes. Sonya sees children from age 3 in person in Squamish, and Tami sees children from age 6 in Canmore. In-person sessions suit hands-on work like self-care and everyday skills. We also see children 6 to 12 in person in Vancouver, Burnaby and the Tri-Cities, where availability is more limited. On the free call we’ll tell you what’s open near you, and whether caregiver coaching might suit your family better.
Occupational therapists are regulated health professionals, so OT is covered by many extended health plans. Some families also use provincial disability or autism funding, which differs by province and is changing in some. Fees you pay that aren’t reimbursed, including for your child, can be claimed as medical expenses on your Canadian tax return. On the free discovery call we’ll tell you the exact fee and go through what could cover it, so there are no surprises before you commit to anything.
